Welcome to the SFS intec Tutorial. During this demonstration we will show you how to correctly install SFS intec ISOTAK RP thermal break fasteners through insulation into a metal deck.
A thermal break insulation fastener is the key to achieving high wind load resistance for membrane covered insulated flat roofs without compromising energy efficiency or specifying excessive thicknesses of insulation.
It is compatible with foam and mineral wool insulation and with metal, concrete or timber decks.
Traditionally a screw gun and drive bar would be used to install the system, however, we recommend you use the IT-18 hand setting tool from SFS intec when installing the ISO TAK fastener onto steel and ply flat roof decks.
This will ensure a time efficient installation on site, and prevents strain being placed on the back. In terms of health and safety this is a much more user-friendly application which eases the contractor’s job and ensures consistent fixing across the roof. The IT-18 will ensure that each fastener is set at the correct depth and the uniform pressure applied to the flange during this process will provide optimum application every time.
Before installation you must first of all adjust the depth setting on the tooling to allow for the length of the tube you are using. (Following the first setting a further simple adjustment may be required by adjusting the footplate depth setting to accommodate site tolerances. This is simply explained in the instruction booklet).
To fix the membrane to the substrate, pre-assemble the fastener and clip the combination onto the foot plate of the IT-18 tool.
Once in position, apply the fastener through the membrane like this and then push down and allow the ISO-TAK BS-4,8 fastener to self drill into the crown of the metal decking. For the optimum setting, the ISO-TAK fastener is applied so that its washer compresses the insulation only very slightly - such that the installer is aware that the tool has torqued. This tool will prevent both overdriving and under driving of the fastener.
The fasteners have hardened points which are designed to eliminate pull out and unwinding, when attaching the fastener to the decking.
For best practice, we recommend contractors carry the ISO TAK fastening systems in a pouch so you can quickly commence the next fixing.
