Hello, I’m Peter Reilly. Welcome to the SFS intec Tutorial. During this demonstration we will show you how to correctly install the SFS intec warranted Pink Strip sealant to ensure you achieve a warranted airtight seal to your roof or cladding.
Whether you are designing, specifying or installing metal clad buildings today, you will be aware of the importance of airtightness around all the joints and overlaps. Precision during installation can mean the difference between a secure roof and performance problems. To help you eliminate any risk we recommend you follow this simple guide to installing our product.
Here we have a roll of butyl sealant and profile metal sheeting similar to the materials you will have on site. You will notice it is pink in colour, this is to help you – and the inspector – identify the product from its alternatives.
Lay the tacky side of the sealant down on the side or end lap of the metal roof sheet and break off at the end, ensuring there are no gaps.
Before peeling back the protective film sheet, firmly press down on the sealant to ensure adhesion to the metal.
Then peel back the protective film sheet.
Before laying the next roof sheet on top, be careful to ensure you have it accurately positioned. The pink strip is designed to be highly adhesive to ensure it performs to its unique 25 year guaranteed warranty; it is therefore difficult to lift the sheets and reposition them once in place.
Place the second sheet securely over the sealant – ensuring it is in the correct position. Finish by pressing down firmly over the joint to ensure the seal is secure and air tight.
When sealing end laps ensure the sealant is pushed firmly into the corners of each ridge like this before laying the next sheet on top. This is to make sure there are no gaps once the second sheet is laid on top, preventing weather from penetrating the joint in the future.
