SUCCESS FOR SFS INTEC AT CONSULTANTS’ CONFERENCE LAUNCH

Changes and developments to present industry regulations and requirements - including the revised EN codes for wind load calculations - were key topics discussed at SFS intec's first Consultants’ Conference (13th - 14th October 2011).

27 October 2011

Hosted at SFS intec’s HQ in Leeds, representatives from the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) and the Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers’ Association (MCRMA), along with 25 industry consultants, attended the two-day event. The programme provided up-to-date information on the upcoming regulations regarding CE marking and the new standard grades of stainless steel, as well as issues surrounding corrosion, solar panel installation and other themes likely to be high on the agenda in 2012.

Technical Services Manager at SFS intec, Peter Reilly - who led the talk on CE marking - said: “By mid 2013, a CE marking on all construction products in the UK will be mandatory. The biggest benefit of having this minimum standard across the board is that it will ensure greater acceptability of products within Europe.”

As well as talks from SFS intec, the audience also received insights from guest speakers David Roy, Roofconsult Ltd; Bill Hawker, Brett Martin Daylight Systems; Alan Scupham, A. Steadman and sons; and Tony Millichap, Kingspan Insulation. The second day incorporated a round table discussion enabling the consultants to discuss and ask any questions.

Colin Yeates, Sales and Marketing Director at SFS intec, said: “The conference was organised with a view to bringing together a selection of key players within the roofing and cladding industry, to educate and discuss current issues affecting many of us, whilst also demonstrating the available solutions that we have to offer.

“At SFS we understand the importance of forming solid working relationships so by bringing everyone together on a level playing field, we were able to really get to the heart of the issues. Continuous improvement is a state of mind and one which I take very seriously. The event received excellent feedback, so watch this space for next year.”

On attending the conference, Carlton Jones, Secretary at MCRMA commented: “As expected the conference was a real success. It was both informative and educational and I found it very beneficial to be able to interact with the other consultants.

“The solar panel installation demonstration was of particular interest to me, enhanced by the first rate facilities that SFS intec houses. I look forward to next year should they decide to make it an annual event.”
