How much am I covered by a warranty?
It’s accepted these days that product warranties come as standard and that they keep you covered for up to 25 years. However, not all warranties are what they appear to be. So how do you know how much you are covered by your warranty?
Warranties vary quite a lot. For example, the SFS intec grade A+ pink strip butyl sealant warranty says:
"Under the Warranty, the company will make good that section of the roof/cladding by replacement or otherwise, any failure resulting from sealant non-performance."
Other suppliers fall short of this standard by making vague claims in the warranty that when it comes to the crunch actually don’t stand for anything.
It’s essential that you check the small print. Check for specific details such as, do they require onerous inspections and reports to maintain cover? What level of remedy do you get if you claim? What happens if you miss an inspection? And if a fault is found on inspection then who pays?
It’s key areas like this where warranties can let you down when it really matters.
