How do I meet the building regulations?
As building regulations become stricter and stricter you need to ensure that you’re right on top of them, and that the products you’re using won’t let you down. So how do you ensure that you meet these regulations?
Aside from the obvious need to comply with all of the various regulations at the planning/design and construction stages, you need to build with durability in mind. Part L, (conservation of heat and power) requires the original thermal performance to be maintained for the design life of the building, so the strong energy efficiency obtained at hand-over must still be there long after the original occupier has moved on.
You need to ensure that your design and specification is met and insist on good workmanship. Most remedial works and claims are caused by poor fixing and the use of the wrong or substandard materials. Check for quality standards, meaningful warranties, trade association memberships, always stick to reputable companies and be wary of suppliers that are often just importers of copy cat goods.
