Why should I worry about the types of fastener being used?
The fasteners used on a building project contribute to only a small amount of the total project cost, so why should I worry about the types of fastener being used?
Whilst fasteners make up only a small amount of the cost, their
contribution to the final building is large. So attention to detail
is the key to ensuring a long trouble free life of a building. It
is commonly known that most site failures are caused by poor
workmanship, cost cutting and the use of the wrong product for the
application. In some instances, such as fixing rooflights, the use
of an incorrect fastener would negate the non-fragility rating and
might prove to be lethal in the event of an accident. Similarly,
wind damage can be eliminated if the correct quantity and type of
fastener is used.
Fasteners and sealants are a tiny fraction of the overall
project cost but can have a considerable impact on remedial costs
if they're neglected. Which is why you need to ensure your roofing
contractor is using the correct fasteners, correctly installed for
the job.
We have developed a series of podcasts showing how our products
are specifically designed for particular applications as well as
for ease of installation. You can view these podcasts by clicking
on the link on the left. Alternatively we can arrange for the
i-Van, our mobile training unit, to visit your offices to show you
first hand the consequences of using the wrong fastener.
